New England Weavers Seminar July 2011 (NEWS)The Weavers' Guild of Boston is a member guild participating in this biennial event. NEWS holds workshops and juried shows that guild members may enter, an extensive sample library, exhibits by weaving supply vendors, and tours. The venue is Smith College in Northampton, MA. Read about WGB at NEWS 2009. Complex Weavers Seminar, July, 2012This three day educational conference is for advanced and other weavers who enjoy a challenge. It is a immediately before or after HGA's Convergence in a nearby location. A low-key intimate setting and a sense of humor bring the focus to learning and camaraderie. Read about the recent seminar at CW Seminar 2010. Convergence July, 2012, The Handweavers Guild of AmericaThe biennial conference of HGA is in the summer of even-numbered years. The conference has an educational program, galleries of weaving, a fashion show, and a vast number of vendors' displays. Convergence 2010. Affiliations of the Weavers Guild of BostonWGB maintains ties with several nonprofit organizations devoted to textiles. Generally, these organizations contribute informational material about their programs and a subscription to any publication they offer to the WGB library. The relationship sometimes entitles WGB members to discounts, access to educational materials, etc. A large part of the relationships is mutual publicity and networking opportunities with other weavers. For the full benefits these organizations offer, individual memberships are encouraged. Complex Weavers
CW is an international organization
for weavers of all levels who are interested in the
techniques of complex weaving. WGB is a member
guild of CW and many WGB
members are also individual members of CW.
The group publishes a Journal of member articles
three times a year, has nearly 30 ongoing study
groups, two large libraries, and runs a three-day
education-focused seminar before or after Convergence.
The Journal, directory of weavers, and study group
guide are in the WGB libary. Handweavers' Guild of America
HGA is a nonprofit, international organization for
fiber artists at all levels. It's dedicated to
encouraging excellence, inspiring creativity, and
preserving fiber traditions through educational
programs, a biennial seven-day conference
(Convergence) and its quarterly publication,
Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot. WGB has a guild
affiliate membership in HGA and therefore may borrow
educational materials from HGA at a discount. WGB
also hosts the Weavers' Guild of Boston Gathering during each
Convergence. It's where information about WGB
is available, and weavers from everywhere are
welcome to come rest and talk shop. New England Weavers Seminar
NEWS is a conference held in the summer of
odd-numbered years. It is sponsored by New
England area guilds including WGB. Guild
members automatically receive the program and
registration materials several months before the
seminar. WGB members are entitled to a
registration discount and may enter the shows. Plimoth Plantation
Plimoth Plantation is a replica 1627 village
in the town of of Plymoth, MA. Plimoth and the Guild share
a common interest in hand woven fabrics of the era. The Textile Museum, Washington DCWGB has two passes that members can borrow from the guild Dean for free admission to the museum and merchandise discounts in their store. Weaving Guilds in New England
